Lauren

Owner of Sarasota Moms Blog

Founding Owner

Lauren is the founding owner of Sarasota Moms Blog, as of July 2016. After growing up in northern Virginia and spending time in the Midwest, Lauren decided not to wait until retirement to enjoy the white sandy beaches and the tropical temperatures that Florida offers. She and her two children, Aiden {2010} and Kinley {2012}, moved south to live near her parents in 2013.  As a family, they love spending time outdoors, checking out new restaurants, and simply snuggling on the couch with a book. On top of being a single mom and the owner of Sarasota Moms Blog, Lauren teaches middle school math in the fabulous Sarasota County Public Schools.

Life has been challenging over the past 10 plus years, with multiple moves, a divorce, and navigating how to be a single mom.  However, through it all she always found mom friends to lean on and pick her up in the midst of hard times. Her hope is to connect moms with their local community, support them and encourage them that they are not alone.

Melanie

Melanie

Managing Editor

Almost four years ago, Melanie married her husband, Eric, in Sarasota, as part of a destination wedding while they were living in Indiana. Fast forward to October 2015, and the couple, along with their now 2-year-old daughter, Colette, moved down here, to seek new, much warmer adventures. Melanie is currently a stay-at-home mom and freelance writer (though this is her first time blogging about herself!). She received her journalism degree from Indiana University and worked as a newspaper reporter for several years, before switching careers and joining the public relations department at a museum. Raised in Latin America, mostly in Lima, Peru, by her American dad and Trinidadian mom, Melanie grew up fluent in Spanish and multi-cultural. This led to her love for international traveling, ethnic food and meeting new people. She is also obsessed with “Game of Thrones,” good books, gummy bears and, of course, her daughter.

Samantha

Event Coordinator

A southern belle through and through, Samantha was born and raised in south Mississippi. She earned her bachelor of arts in 2008 from the University of Southern Mississippi. Following graduation, she bounced around all over the Southeast for two years before landing in Florida. Samantha relocated to Florida from her beloved New Orleans in 2010 taking a position as a news journalist in Central Florida. In 2014, she moved to Sarasota and quickly fell in love with and put down roots in this beautiful city. Over the past three years in SRQ, life has been a roller coaster – she made a slight career change and stepped away from full time news reporting and transitioned into the communications and marketing field, broke off an engagement, and started a local photography and event planning company.

Samantha’s first priority in her life is her son Jaden. She and Jaden enjoy playing basketball, volunteering, the beach, bike rides, finding new adventures and exploring together. Having a child was never part of Samantha’s plan growing up, however she has gained strength, gratitude, grace and courage after accepting the gift of motherhood. Watching her son grow and conquer postpartum depression has created a new outlook on life for her. For Samantha, motherhood has been a challenge from day one but, over time, has proven to be the most rewarding aspect of her life.
