Here’s a quick and easy Valentine’s Day craft to add a little handmade artistic love to your holiday this year.
- Shaving cream (I got this in the Dollar Tree)
- Paint (I used a combination of pink and red washable tempera paints from Walmart)
- Paintbrush/popsicle stick
- Shallow container (I used a lasagna dish because I couldn’t find anything else!)
- Paper or card
- Hole punch
First, you’ll want to fill your container with a layer of shaving foam. Now add the paint, and use a popsicle stick, paint brush, or something you don’t mind getting messy, to swirl the colors and foam together. My son loved this bit, so get the littles involved in swirling everything together.
When you’re happy, place your paper down so that it’s covered with the paint.
The next bit can get a little messy because when you remove the paper you’ll have some excess foam that you’ll need to wipe away with another piece of paper. The good thing about using washable paints is that everything washes off, but you might want to put something down to soak up any drips or spills. Repeat the process until you’ve made enough, and add more paint and foam as you need it.
When your paper is dry you’ll see that you have a lovely marbled effect. Then draw different size hearts on the back and cut them out.
Next, I used a hole punch to add holes to the top of each heart. I used red ribbon to thread the hearts together to make a hanging garland.
You could take this Valentine’s Day craft a step further and use the hearts to make other things, like a wreath, a Valentine’s Day card, or picture frame, so be creative and let us know what you come up with!
