If there’s one thing we’re missing in Sarasota, it’s a massive water park. But if you’re willing to venture out of town a bit, there are plenty of places where you can experience all the super-soaking excitement of tube rides, river rapids, climbing towers and even live animal encounters! All of these attractions are within a 2 hour drive of Sarasota and definitely worth a day trip.

Aquatica is the first waterpark to incorporate live animals from lands all over the world. The OWC Aquapark is inspired by LEGO blocks, featuring a modular series of interlocking climbing obstacles, pathways and slides, allowing for endless fun for all ages and skill level. With multiple challenges like the XXL climbing tower, balance beam, monkey bars, rodeo slide and much more the OWC Aquapark will provide hours of fun on the water for the entire family. Children must be 6 years old and 43″ tall in order to participate.

As you enter Volcano Bay, you pass through a lush tropical landscape, guided by the roar and splash of water until you reach a break in the foliage. From there, you’re greeted by an unforgettable view of the mighty volcano and its stunning series of waterfalls that pour into the sparkling lagoon. There, you can swim, splash and relax right along with the locals amid the breathtaking view and warm waves. Four-person canoes slide upward through the mists and into the dark twists and turns within the volcano before emerging with a plunge through a shimmering waterfall. A winding river, drop slides, body slides and raft rides round out the fun at this refreshing oasis.

You don’t have to be a guest at Tradewinds Island Resort to enjoy this water park that floats on top of the Gulf. Head straight into the ocean on the Plunge Slide, climb atop Jungle Joe, test your coordination as you balance on a 7′ Iceberg, slide along the splashmats and runways or just relax on large loungers immersed in the water. All guests must weigh more than 30 pounds and be 46” tall. Children 40-45” tall can play at the park but must be accompanied by someone older than 16 years old. The park has certified lifeguards on duty, and all guests are required to wear life jackets.

Spend the day looking at sharks, sea turtles, sea horses, coral reefs, wetlands and more and then cool off at the Splash Pad (open 10:00am – 4:45pm, weather permitting). This zero-depth water area features dump buckets, spray zones, and a designated water play area for toddlers. Plus, there are dry playground elements and sandboxes for your kids to enjoy. Access to the Splash Pad is included with Aquarium general admission.

For the more adventurous, the Aquarium offers Swim & Dive experiences at an additional rate. From swimming and diving with fishes and sharks in the tanks, to an offsite dive adventure exploring a spectacular shipwreck in the Gulf of Mexico, there are plenty of ways to get up close and personal with the sea life. Just bring your swimsuit and towel (snorkel mask optional) and they’ll provide the rest!

Buccanneer Bay is Florida’s only spring-fed natural waterpark. Located inside the Weeki Wachee Springs State Park it features four thrilling waterslides, a fun-filled flume, a water play area and wading pool for the kiddos and lazy river. Certified lifeguards are on staff and concessions and a seasonal restaurant are available inside the park.

If you’re more of an explorer, you can rent a kayak or canoe from Paddling Adventures and take a 3-hour, 5.5 mile paddle down the clear spring waters of the Weeki Wachee River. Admission to the State Park also gives you access to the legendary mermaid show, wildlife show and riverboat ride. Please note: To improve the underwater habitat for performers, the mermaid shows will be suspended July 16-30, 2018. The mermaids will resume their daily show schedule on July 31, 2018.

Located in the back of the park, the LEGOLAND Waterpark is only accessible by purchasing an upgrade to the LEGOLAND’s general park admission. Designed for kids ages 2-12, unique experiences like the Build-A-Boat attraction await, where kids build their own LEGO watercraft and then race it down a series of rapids at a large water table. At the Build-A-Raft River, kids design their own LEGO water vessel, then ride it down the 1000-foot long lazy river. Kids can also enjoy water slides, a wave pool, a Joker Soaker station filled with slides, climbing areas, water spouts and a wading pool. Toddlers will have fun at the DUPLO Splash Safari, a water play area with shorter slides and large, interactive DUPLO creatures.
