If you’ve stepped outside lately, you’ve likely felt the urge to be neck deep in a nice, cool pool. Whether you’re looking to swim laps, watch your kids splash and slide, or just lounge poolside with a cocktail, you’ve come to the right place. Here’s a refreshing list of local public pools just waiting for you to take the plunge. No membership required. Cannonball anyone?

Cost: $3.00 for all above 6 months old. This includes admission to the entire GT Bray Recreation Complex.

GT Bray offers lap and recreational swimming year-round in their lap pool, which is 6 lanes/50-meters by 8 lanes/25-yards. Lap swimming is available during regular operating hours. The pool is heated to 80 degrees during the winter months and is covered at night by thermal blankets. Also available is a separate diving well with 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards and a 12-foot/2 flume water slide.

From May to October, a 4,000 square foot splash park with all sorts of spraying arches and a mushroom with continuous cascading water is available for small children. Locker rooms and vending machines are available. Entrance fee includes pool, gymnasium, fitness center, wellness orientation, game-room/teen center, racquetball, tennis (hard courts only), and pickleball.

At John H. Marble, your family can enjoy a 25-meter/6 lane lap and recreational pool that goes from 4-to-12 feet deep. Complete locker room facilities are available, and food and drinks can be brought in, but must be eaten at the concession area. Lifeguards are present at all times while the facility is open.

Cost: $2.00 per person, all ages. This includes entrance to the entire pool and splash park.

From spring break through the summer months, while Manatee County Schools are not in session, your family can enjoy the two pools and huge 3,000 square foot splash pad at Willie J. “Bro” Clemons Pool. The 25-meter recreational pool goes from 3-to-10 feet deep and features one diving board, while the shaded kiddie pool is 2-feet deep. At the splash pad, kids wait in anticipation of the topple buckets dumping water over them and skip through the many spraying streams. Concessions and a shaded picnic area are available for when you get hungry! Lifeguards are present at all times while the facility is open.

Cost: Sign up for a guest pass, which gives you 3 complimentary visits per person, per calendar year to any Manatee YMCA of your choice (Lakewood Ranch has an outdoor pool, Bradenton has an indoor pool).

With your guest pass, you can take a dip in their heated pool and also enjoy other YMCA amenities like their fitness center, indoor gymnasium, aerobic studio, kid zone, and more! If you like what you see, you can always decide to spring for a full membership.

This family-friendly center features a 50-meter lap pool, 25-meter instructional pool and wading pool. The park also features a playground and picnic area. Locker rooms are available and lifeguards are on duty.

Cost: $4.00 for adults 12+, $2 for seniors 55+ and youth under 12

Watch the Gulf waves while you swim in this 25-meter/5 lap beachside pool! Parking is free and a refreshment/snack bar and restrooms are available. Alcoholic beverages, food, drinks and pets are permitted inside the fenced area of the pool. When you’ve tired of the pool, you can dip your toes in the sand and take a stroll along the beach. Usually not too crowded, the Lido Beach Pool area is a great alternative to Siesta Key.

The Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, formerly known as “The Rec,” has been a community anchor for more than 60 years. Pool features include Zero Entry, Splash Pad Zone, Small Slide, Large Slide, Jacuzzi Section, Lap Lanes and plenty of outdoor seating and access to locker rooms. Lifeguards are on duty. Their state-of-the-art facility also features a fitness center, game room, computer lab, picnic shelters, covered playground and more!

Sun n Fun offers a mega waterslide and splash pad, playground, and Olympic-size outdoor heated pool, complete with pool side lounge chairs and umbrella tables. They also offer “dive in” movies every Friday night June – October, where your family can float in the pool while watching a flick (and you sip a cocktail!).

The Selby Aquatic Center Water Park is open weekends during summer break and offers a spectacular wading pool and splash area for your entire family! There are colorful water cannons, a small waterslide and a very large wading pool area for your children to enjoy. Older kids will love the water slide and 50-meter Olympic-size swimming pool.

Both the Englewood and Venice branches of the YMCA have outdoor Olympic-size pools and spas for your family to enjoy. Membership not required, as day passes can be purchased at the rates above.
