Make Sure That You Do This if You Want a Successful Day

morning routine good dayHow do you start your day? Does it begin in total chaos and completely rushed? After your alarm goes off, are you racing to get everyone up, fed and off to work and school? Does this sound familiar to you?

If you are ready to stop the insanity and have a more successful day, then you need to have a Morning Routine. What you do during the first hour or two of your day sets the tone for your entire day. Having a good and consistent routine in place can reduce anxiety and stress and make your day a lot more productive. Your morning routine sets the tone for EVERYTHING, so it’s crucial to put a good one in place.

So, what is a Morning Routine?

A morning routine is what you do in the first hour or two after waking every day. Many of the most successful people in the world have good, solid morning routines. Even if you aren’t Bill Gates, you ARE the CEO of your life and you want it to be a success, right?

How do you create a good Morning Routine?

First, write down what’s important to you for your day, your week, your life. What do you value? How do you want to feel? What are your goals? What are your intentions? Your morning routine sets your intentions for the day and holds you to that path and intention. Everyone has different morning routines, so make it your own. The KEY is to make it a positive routine and to stick with it!

Now, think about your current morning routine. How is it currently setting the tone for your day, your week? How does it align with your current goals and intentions? What parts of your routine are serving you well and which ones are creating more stress for you? What would you like to add to your routine?

I suggest that you pick 4 positive habits to do for your morning routine and consistently do it for a week. Morning routines can evolve and change, so if you notice that something isn’t working for you, then change it.

Here are some ideas of things you can add to your Morning Routine:

  • Wake up at the same time every morning
  • Make your bed
  • Drink lemon water upon waking
  • Meditate
  • Write in a journal
  • Exercise
  • Visualize your day
  • Yoga
  • Stretch for 5 minutes
  • Take a cold shower
  • Eat a healthy breakfast
  • Read
  • Listen to music
  • Say a mantra or gratitude prayer  

My Current Routine

My routine isn’t fancy in any way, but it is a routine that I am consistent with and I get a lot of value from. First, I make sure to set my alarm at least 30 minutes before anyone else in my family wakes up. This allows me to ease into my day at my own pace and spend a little time with myself before the morning rush begins. After I wake up, I lay in bed for a few minutes to visualize my day, set my intentions and sometimes to even give myself a little pep talk. This really helps me to enter the day ahead focused and with a plan, rather than just winging it. After I get out of bed, I drink a large glass of water to re-hydrate my body. I then make a cup of coffee and enjoy it quietly while everyone else is still sleeping. I cherish this time to myself.

After my quiet time is over, I make sure to wake up my daughter about 15-20 minutes before she has to start getting ready, so that she can wake up gradually and ease into her day. This makes our routine for getting her dressed, fed and out the door SO much easier! After my daughter goes to school, I then make sure to exercise and have a nutrient-packed smoothie for breakfast.
