Sarasota Events in June for SRQ Moms

School is out! Summer vacation has started! Hooray! These are all things your kids are probably exclaiming. And you are likely excited for them too; you are looking forward to spending more time with them. But you may also be fretting. You are wondering how you will entertain them, keep them busy, avoid cabin fever, and help their brains stay active so they are prepared for the next school year. Well here we have a great list of Sarasota events that will provide family fun, craft time, energy burning outings, and brain exercising activities. And lots of them are free!

Below are Sarasota events that we consider highlights for June, including lots of indoor and outdoor free movies, arts and crafting activities, themed kids parties, summer festivals and the circus. Further below there are some weekly activities that you can look forward to each week and set up play dates and meet ups with friends. We will keep updating this list, so check back periodically.

Special Sarasota Events

June 1: Music on Main Street in Lakewood Ranch

A free family-friendly concert series and block party for the public hosted from 6-9pm on the first Friday of each month. The street is lined with food vendors, beer trucks, and sponsor booths, as well as rides and activities for the kids presented by Grace Community Church. Tropical Avenue will fill the air with R&B, Top 40, Latin, rock and island music and the deejay will keep you dancing with today’s Top 100 hits. Proceeds will benefit Girl Scouts of Gulf Coast Florida.

June 2: World Oceans Day Family Festival at Mote Aquarium

A worldwide ocean celebration is on the horizon — join the fun during the World Oceans Day Family Festival at Mote Aquarium. Mote’s World Oceans Day event will spotlight the ocean’s deep connection to the human spirit and the boundless inspirational power of our natural world’s greatest resource. The family festival is free with regular paid admission to Mote Aquarium and is free for Mote members. Entertainment by the Garbage Men from 11:30am-1pm, plus shark photo opportunities, face painting, Kona Ice and more throughout the day.

June 2: Free Movie for Children with Autism – “Coco”

Face Autism, Inc. is presenting a FREE sensory friendly movie for children with autism and their families. “Coco” will be playing at 10am at Burns Court in downtown Sarasota. This is a great family activity to share with those who would benefit from this event. Drinks and snacks will be available for purchase

June 2: Home Depot Kids Workshop

Every month, Home Depot offers a free hands-on workshop for kids and their parents. This month, parents and grandparents can share the nostalgic pastime of car modeling with their children in this classic car hands-on workshop. Together you can build a vintage General Motors-style wooden car to put on display or take for a ride. Once the vehicle is built, your child can customize it with paint and stickers. Each child gets a project, plus a workshop apron and a certificate of achievement, while supplies last. Bradenton and Sarasota Home Depots participate, as well as others, so please check the website for your local store and to pre-register (not required). Recommended ages: 5-12.

June 2: Family First Saturdays at Ringling Museum

On the First Saturday of every month enjoy programming for families with kids of all ages, with different activities taking place between 10am and 3pm. Check out the website (click on event name) for details on these programs and more during the event: Art Making (relating a project to art you can find in the galleries, for all ages); ROAR for Big Kids! (Ringling Order of Art Readers, for ages 5-7); and Kids Quest (Tours with games and activities for ages 8-12). The theme this month is “Animals in Art” and will celebrate the Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads, an exhibit that departs June 4.

June 2: Wild Crafting for the Wild Child – Decorative Clay Mosaics

The Children’s Garden of Sarasota is pulling out tons of trinkets from the shelves to create beautiful decorative clay mosaics. Your kids will enjoy a full hour of studio time from 11am-noon sifting through alphabet stamps, beads, jewels, painted rocks, buttons and rhinestones, or stick to nature finds from the garden like twigs and leaves. Let them design their own air dry clay mosaic that they can take home! Let their masterpiece dry in the sun while they play in the garden and let their imagination run wild. Class fee is $5 (plus tax, per child), in addition to garden admission. Call or visit the website to reserve your spot.

June 7: Florida Maritime Museum Coastal Community Celebration

Join the Florida Maritime Museum for their Coastal Community Celebration to kick-off World Ocean’s Day on June 7th from 6-8pm. During this FREE, family fun evening, FMM invites the community to celebrate the grand opening of the Burton Store with live music and activities for children and adults! Starting at 6pm, join FMM staff for a brief history of the Historic Burton Store and its importance in Cortez’s maritime history, and its continued legacy. After the ribbon cutting, wander around the museum grounds to find crafts and interactive activities exploring ocean pollution, commercial fishing, sea turtles and more that relate to the important ecosystem that is our ocean. Continue your journey inside the museum to discover the new art exhibit, “The Meaning Behind Maritime.”

June 7: UTC Summer Fun Club – Moana Summer Kick-Off

Join The Mall at UTC for the first Summer Fun Club of the season! Kick off the Summer with a Hawaiian theme Luau Party featuring Moana! Grass Skirts, lei making, hula dancing and so much more! Summer Fun Club is every Thursday from 10am-noon from June 7 through July 26. Dillard’s Court, lower level (near the children’s play area). Each week will have a different theme where kids can enjoy FREE activities, crafts, music and more!

Celebrate the 37th year of Astro Skate being in business from 8-11pm! Make and bring in a birthday card for Astro, and get in for only $2.37! (skate rental is extra). The best birthday card will win what’s in the birthday box or $137 in cash.

June 8: Kids Craft and Movie Night at the Bradenton Yacht Club

Every second Friday of the month, stop by the Bradenton Yacht Club in Palmetto for a FREE night of family fun. Arts and crafts from 6:30-7:15pm, followed by movie and popcorn on the lawn, at 7:30pm. The movie is moved inside if the weather isn’t appropriate. Bring your own blanket, lounge chair, cushion and/or pillow. Food and beverages are not included. Parent supervision is required for children under 5.

June 9: Daisy D’Lites Father’s Day (free ice cream!)

Stop by D’Lites Shoppe from noon to 2pm on this day for a free kids ice cream cone with a purchase (1 per family), photos with Daisy (the giant ice cream cone mascot) and a free Father’s Day craft that kids can make for their dad or grandpas. D’Lites sells low calorie, low sugar, low fat, low carb, vegan, and artisan ice creams, plus heathy treats, coffee and more. On Saturdays, the store also offers $1 off blenders.

June 9: Moms on the Town with Two Blooms

Sarasota Moms Blog is hosting it’s 2nd Moms on the Town event in June, and partnering with Alice’s Table by Two Blooms. It will be a fun and interactive class where you will learn to make a beautiful flower arrangement that you get to take home! More details to come. June 9: Blue + You Movie Night – “Deep” – and Summer Kick Off Event

The Sarasota Police Department, in conjunction with numerous community organizations, will be hosting a family free community event and ‘Blue + You’ movie night to officially kick off a safe and sustainable summer. It’s all happening at Sarasota PD Headquarters. The FREE family event starts at 7:30pm with educational booths from Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium, Audubon Florida, Save Our Seabirds and Florida Fish and Wildlife. There will be hands-on activities, crafts and displays from the Sarasota Police Marine Patrol, Crime Prevention, Cub Scouts, Coast Guard Auxiliary, City of Sarasota Sustainability Program, Whole Foods, Sea Turtle Conservation and Research Program and more. The ‘Blue + You’ movie “Deep” will begin at 8:30pm on the west lawn of police headquarters.

June 10: Stop the Violence Cookout

Share the message of peace and positivity during this free community event that encourages the need to stop violence. The event will include free food and drinks, music, face painting, water balloon invasion, blood donations, flag football, bubble stations, jump rope, free school supplies, free books, dance contest, chair massages, hair braiding, kids haircuts and more. There will also be a moment of silence and dove release. The cookout, held for the third year, is from noon to 6pm at Payne Park.

The 2018 Circus Spectacular will amaze and dazzle you! Looking for an hour of incredible family fun at affordable prices? Get your tickets for this show held at the Historic Asolo Theater at the Ringling. Presented in collaboration with The Circus Arts Conservatory of Sarasota, this onstage exhibition of circus artistry provides delightful summer entertainment for children of all ages. Extra bonus: Admission to the Ringling’s Circus Museum is only an additional $5 with your Summer Circus performance ticket! Tickets may be purchased at Admissions on the day of your show.

June 13: SMB Play Date at the UTC Mall

Summer is here! It’s getting hotter and the weather is getting more unpredictable so the next Lakewood Ranch & Bradenton Moms Tribe play date will be held from 10am-noon at the UTC indoor playground. This Tribe, part of Sarasota Moms Blog, meets the second Wednesday and fourth Sunday every month at different locations. All are invited. Join the Facebook group to get updates on future play dates. This is a great way to get out of the house with your kids and meet other moms in the area.

June 14: UTC Summer Fun Club – Circus Day

Join The Mall at UTC for the second Summer Fun Club of the season! This week’s event is Circus Day with the Circus Arts Conservatory. Don’t miss the fun and wonder of the circus! Summer Fun Club is every Thursday from 10 am-noon from June 7 through July 26. Dillard’s Court, lower level (near the children’s play area). Each week will have a different theme where kids can enjoy FREE activities, crafts, music and more!

June 14: Flag Day Craft at Learning Express Toys

Celebrate Flag Day at Learning Express Store in Sarasota by making a patriotic windsock so you can display the stars and stripes! This is a free event and is recommended for children 4 and up. 11am-noon.

June 15: Outdoor Movie – “Moana”

All are invited for a celebration that school is out! Free Kona Ice and popcorn will be available. Bring your chairs/blankets to West Bradenton Baptist Church and get comfortable on the grass by the playground for a viewing of “Moana.” 7:30-9:30pm.

June 16: Dad’s Day Block Party

Celebrate the fathers in your life inside Grand Court at The Mall at UTC for the annual Dad’s Day Block Party! It’s a day filled with fun, food and family, as well celebrate all things Dad! Stop by and enjoy meet and greets with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tampa Bay Lightning, free food and beverages, a putting green contest, Microsoft tech lounge, sweet treats and more. You can even enter to win a night with the Model S from Tesla.

June 16: Father’s Day Craft

Create a memorable handmade card to give to dad at Learning Express Toys of University Park. This is a free event and is recommended for kids ages 4 and up. Reservations required. Must call the store to reserve a spot. Limited spots available.

June 16: Kids Night Out Paint Party

Do the kids need a fun night out? Do you need a couple hours without kids? Drop your children off at Let’s Create Art for a kids-only paint party. Ages 6 and up are welcome. Doors lock at 7pm and will reopen for pick up. Snack and drink provided. $28 per child.

June 16: Andy’s Art Factory at Selby Gardens

Calling all kids (and kids at heart)! Enjoy art and nature as part of the Andy Warhol experience at Selby Gardens. Included with regular admission, Andy’s Art Factory will offer artistic children’s activities in the great outdoors. During the morning hours from 10am-noon, kids have the opportunity to create their own Warhol-inspired art with tempera paint, crayons, colored pencils, markers, color paper and other materials.

June 16: Make Your Own Pizza

Starting June 16, Evie’s Tavern and Grill, 5897 Whitfield Ave., will be hosting a pizza making event for kids ages 3-10 every Saturday from 9:30am-11am, through July. Cost is $5 and includes a pizza and a drink. Limited seating, so call 941-358-9861 to RSVP.

June 16-17: Free Admission to Jungle Gardens on Father’s Day Weekend

Treat dad to free outing at Jungle Gardens! A great deal for families who want to explore together. For each ticket you purchase, a dad or grandfather receives free admission to Jungle Gardens, on the same day. Offer valid on Saturday and Sunday of the holiday weekend.

June 20: Fun to be Fit – Ages 5-10

Now that school is out for the summer, Fun To Be Fit Kids is offering a class for elementary school ages! This class is for ages 5-10 and their caregivers to attend together. We will learn about being healthy while singing, dancing, and having a lot of fun! You will learn dances to music from Ms. Adrianne’s new album “Team Planet Earth”! 1-1:45pm.

June 21: UTC Summer Fun Club – Fun With Food

Join The Mall at UTC for the third Summer Fun Club of the season! This week’s theme is Fun With Food! Don’t miss the yummy fun!Summer Fun Club is every Thursday from 10 am – 12 pm from June 7 through July 26. Dillard’s Court, lower level (near the children’s play area). Each week will have a different theme where kids can enjoy FREE activities, crafts, music and more!

June 22: Van Wezel Friday Fest with Jah Movement

This summer music festival series kicks off in June with Jah Movement, which will play reggae, soca, calypso and R&B right on the outdoor grounds of the Van Wezel, along the bayfront. This family-friendly party also has food and drink vendors. This is held outdoors where families can gather together and kids can play while enjoying the view of the bay, or is moved indoors if it rains. Bring your own chairs and blankets. 5-9pm.

June 24: SMB Play Date

The Lakewood Ranch & Bradenton Moms Tribe meets at 10am the second Wednesday and fourth Sunday every month at different locations for play dates. The location for this play date is TBD. This group, part of Sarasota Moms Blog, is open to all. Join the Facebook group to get updates on future play dates. This is a great way to get out of the house with your kids and meet other moms in the area.

June 28: UTC Summer Club – Superhero Day

Join The Mall at UTC for the fourth Summer Fun Club of the season. This week’s theme is Superhero Day! Dress the kiddos up as their favorite characters. Summer Fun Club is every Thursday from 10am-noon from June 7 through July 26. Dillard’s Court, lower level (near the children’s play area). Each week will have a different theme where kids can enjoy FREE activities, crafts, music and more.

June 28: Emoji Bracelet Craft

Visit Learning Express Toys of University Park to create your very own emoji bracelet from 11am-noon. This is a free event and is recommended for kids ages 5 and up.

June 30: Meet Marshall from “Paw Patrol”

Marshall, the firefighter pup from “Paw Patrol” will be visiting Learning Express Toys of University Park. Bring your children from 11am-noon to meet him and pose for photos with him. Don’t forget your camera!

June 30-July 4: Independence Day Weekend Special at Jungle Gardens

All children’s admission tickets are half priced during the extended holiday weekend at Jungle Gardens. And on July 4th, admission is free for all active and retired military members, with the purchase of a same day full priced admission.

Mondays: Mad Science at the Library

The Manatee County Public Library will host a weekly Mad Science program at the downtown Bradenton library on most Mondays, at 10:30am. This is geared toward school-aged kids. Each week will have a different theme. June 4: Fire and Ice Show. June 18: Up, Up & Away. June 25: Superhero Science Show. July 9: Spin Pop Boom! Show. July 16: Science of Magic Show. July 23: Sounds Like Science.

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays: Baby Boot Camp 

Baby Boot Camp is a stroller fitness group where moms can bring their babies in jogging strollers and exercise in a group setting. After the workouts, children get to play at the park while the moms socialize. The aim is to provide a supportive environment for all mothers to get in shape while developing a sense of community. Classes start at 9:30am.  

Tuesdays: Preschool Craft and Story Time at Arts A Blaze Studio

Each week, kids (ages 5 and under) will create a pottery piece (to be picked up later) or canvas project as well as a pre-k appropriate craft that they may take home the same day. After the arts and crafts are complete, a story will be read. Cost is $12 unless otherwise stated. Space is limited and reservations receive priority. Begins at 10am at Arts A Blaze Studio in Lakewood Ranch.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays: $1 Family Movies at Regal Cinemas

Get out of the heat and into the cool comfort of a movie theater, with $1 family movies at Regal Cinemas. At 10am every Tuesday and Wednesday from June 4-Aug. 1, there will be an option of two different movies. While they are slightly older movies, they are usually favorites among kids, including both animated and live action films. Our local Regal Cinemas include Regal Hollywood Stadium 11 (downtown Sarasota) and Regal Oakmont 8 (Bradenton). A portion of the proceeds goes to the Will Rogers Institute.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays: Kids Summer Beach Runs

This summer there are FREE kids summer beach runs at Siesta Key Public Beach on Tuesdays at 5:30pm and Venice Beach by Sharky’s on Wednesdays at 5:30pm, from June 5 to August 7. Kids ages 1-17 will be awarded participation ribbons and an ice pop. Registration at each location starts at 5:30pm with the run starting promptly at 6:30pm. Participants that complete 4 runs earn a free T-shirt and other prizes. More information at 941-861-5000.

Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays: Toddler Time at Sky Zone

The Toddler Time program offers kids ages 5 and under free run of all open trampoline courts in the park. Toddler Time at Sky Zone is a special time, just for the little ones, where they can explore exciting new ways to be active. One parent can assist for free. Additionally, check out the Glow and Character Toddler Time events held select Toddler Time days.

Wednesdays and Saturdays: Children’s Yoga at Pineapple Yoga Studio.

Every Saturday at 1:45-2:30 and every Wednesday at 4-4:45, $10 per child. Also, each month, on the first Sunday of the month there will be a 2-hour workshop at Pineapple Yoga Studio for $30 per child or $50 for 2. This is based on Chakras, crystals and yoga. Additionally, a monthly yoga and essential oils workshop will take place at Colonial Oaks Park, from 4-5pm. Kids yoga will also be held at Circusoul yoga studio from 1:30-2:30 every Monday.

Thursdays and Fridays: ROAR: Ringling Order or Art Readers

Stories and illustrations are often a child’s first exposure to the joy of reading and the wonder of art. ROAR! is The Ringling’s family story time designed to engage toddlers and preschoolers in activities that connect art with early literacy. Stop by for a story and an accompanying activity. This program is free but now requires a free ticket that can be picked up in the Visitors Pavilion the morning of the program. Starting in 2018, the program has expanded to Thursdays too and is held every week. A similar program, ROAR for Big Kids, is held on the first Saturday of the month (next one is June 2nd). There’s plenty of other family programming too.

Saturdays: Free Try-It Ice Skating Class

Want to learn or test your ice skating skills? Stop by the free try-it class held every Saturday at Ellenton Ice Skating. The class is open to all ages, as long as you can find ice skates that fit you (skates start at size 6). The class is first come, first serve, and accepts 20 participants, so get there early.

Saturdays (first and third Saturdays of each month): KidSpace at the South Florida Museum

Are your kids obsesses with outer space and beyong? KidSpace is a program for kids who want to explore everything there is to know about space and become Masters of the Universe. From 10:15 – 11am on the first and third Saturday mornings, your kids can help unleash the power of the Bishop Planetarium, taking off from Earth’s surface and flying to places no human has gone before: the Sun, the planets, other moons of our solar system, newly discovered solar systems in our galaxy and beyond. KidSpace is designed for kids in elementary school (grades 1-5), and their grown-ups. Museum members, $3; Non-members, $5. Space is limited. Admission to the museum is not included, other than for members. 

Saturdays: Make Your Own Pizza

Evie’s Tavern and Grill, 5897 Whitfield Ave., is hosting a pizza making event for kids ages 3-10 every Saturday from 9:30am-11am. Starting June 16 through July. Cost is $5 and includes a pizza and a drink. Limited seating, so call 941-358-9861 to RSVP.

Saturdays and Sundays: Family Fun Open Paint

The Makers Market and Workshops provide DIY workshops for kids ages 6 and up and their parents. The laid-back weekend classes are the perfect backdrop for that family bonding time while creating a wall-worthy project you will be proud to display in your home. Each guest will receive a 12″ x 16″ wood sign and the option to choose from over 70 of the most popular stencil designs. Held at 10am and 1pm.

Daily: Free admission to Ringling Museum

Admission to the art museum is free every Monday. The outdoor grounds, though, are free every day from 10am-5pm. There you can have fun in the playground, which has a water/sand area; search for hidden outdoor sculptures; explore the many scenic nooks and gardens; have a picnic along the bayfront; and take photos of your children in the beautiful grounds.
