Guess what mommas? We can still enjoy all the sweet decadence of fall flavors without popping the buttons off our skinny jeans! That’s right! We may be sailing right into Fall but this momma isn’t giving up on what she loves: fitness and feeling fabulous! I refuse to play into the part of gaining access weight during the holidays. For one thing, it’s way too hard to work off in the gym in January and it sure doesn’t look attractive in a bikini on Lido Key!
Life really is so much different living in a tropical climate during all four seasons of the year. In Virginia, we would go into hibernation mode. Boots, sweaters and scarves would start filling our closets as we put away our cute tanks and sundresses. Then right along with it all, we would bring out the casseroles and decadent sweets and everything needed to make our stomachs bloat and our skinny jeans not so skinny any more! I’ll agree that, on occasion, those bites are perfectly okay to indulge in; but in order to stay fit and live healthy a lifestyle, we have got to have some self-control mommas!
Trust me, I KNOW the challenge. My fiancé loves all things sweet: chocolate bars, cookies & ice cream are all his faves. Instead of refusing to buy it altogether I’ll make us treats that literally taste like we are cheating our diets! So, speaking of fall – who doesn’t LOVE all things pumpkin? After all, we are swarmed by influence in advertisements and end caps in the grocery store to make pumpkin pies, cookies, cakes and even French toast casseroles. YIKES!
Give me an Amen mommas if you still want to indulge but your body doesn’t pay the price!? I think I heard a couple hundred of you from here! Let’s talk about how to do this right. I think we can all agree that one of our favorite fall must-haves is PUMPKIN, right!? Absolutely! I’m sharing with you one of my favorite ways to enjoy pumpkin and all the flavors of a pumpkin pie but without the unnecessary calories, carbs and sugars. Not only does pumpkin immediately make us think of our favorite fall things: lattes, boots, holiday parties but it’s also extremely good for us to eat. It is loaded with vitamins & minerals to improve your overall health plus fiber to keep us full longer; healthy fats which are essential to weightloss, and iron for a rich immune system. Your body, mind and skinny jeans will thank you!
SKINNY PUMPKIN SMOOTHIE
The flavor of pumpkin pie is made into a delicious smoothie suitable for breakfast, lunch or a snack!
Serves: 1 smoothie
5 ice cubes
½ cup pumpkin puree
½ cup unsweetened coconut milk
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
5 raw pecans
½ tsp pumpkin pie spice
½ tsp stevia
shredded coconut, optional
Starting with the ice, add all 7 of the first ingredients to the blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a glass and top with shredded coconut. Decorate it with a straw for easy sipping and enjoy!
